Secret 1. Make sure compound exercises are part of your routine

When working hard to lose your gut, don’t concentrate on performing isolation abdominal exercises. You need to include compound movements such as squats, deadlifts and overhead presses. These will engage your entire core, ensuring your abs are strengthened from all angles. Don’t leave them out of your training program.

Secret 2. Forget entire workouts just for your abs 

Don’t make the mistake of wasting an entire session at the gym just on your abs, 15 minutes max is all you need. If you are already making sure compound exercises are in your workout then you only really need one or two different abs exercises for maybe 2-3 sets at the end of your workout to maximise your “lose your gut” plan.

Secret 3. Crunches are yesterday’s news

Many people seeking to lose the gut think that they can just do crunches and nothing else. There are a plethora of exercises that are actually more effective than the overused crunch. Performing dumbbell abs moves target more of the muscles in your core than the crunch so change it up and inject some life into how you lose your gut.

Secret 4. Never forgetting about your lower back  

Often when people train their core they only think of it as the front and the side, but your back is also part of your core. The lower back muscles often suffer from neglect, if you want your core to be strong with a flat tummy, ensure you work your lower back just as you would your abs. It is important to train your lower back for muscle balance and core strength.

Secret 5. Get your diet in check.

Working out is not the only answer and will only burn off some of that kebab so stop wasting your time. When you want to lose your gut and get the flat tummy or visible abs the answer isn’t how many workouts you can do but how low your body fat percentage is. You won’t burn off that excess fat by doing endless abdominal workouts, you can train your abs all you want but no one will ever see them if you don’t have your diet in check.  A great mix of cardio workouts, compound and abs exercises and a strict diet is the key to ensure you lose the gut and get a flat tones tummy of your dreams.
