First Aid Saves Lives It Could Be Yours

First Aid courses are being hosted by Ideal Fitness who are backing a safety watchdog appeal

A Telford business is backing an appeal by the safety watchdog to encourage more Shropshire businesses to make the wellbeing of its workers a top priority this financial year.

The Health and Safety Executive launched its appeal after figures revealed that three people lost their lives whilst at work across Shropshire in 2013/14 and 715 suffered injury.

The statistics show that a further 8,700 people were also estimated to have been made ill through their work over the same period.

Telford based personal training and therapy business Ideal Fitness said today it would be backing the HSE appeal and kick starting the new financial year by holding two emergency first aid courses for businesses across the county.

Joint managing director Paul Fernley said: “The HSE has appealed directly to Shropshire businesses to look to see if they can do more to protect their workforce and we are delighted to be supporting the appeal by holding these one day first aid training courses.

“Hundreds of people die each year across Britain in situations where basic first aid could have made a difference either by direct intervention or recognising the signs of a life-threatening condition such as a heart attack.

“ You never know when someone might be taken seriously ill at work but by providing basic first aid training to all staff you are equipping them with skills that could help save someone’s life.

“It is our aim to make sure all businesses in Shropshire no matter how big or small have the necessary skills to deal with common life threatening situations and with April being the start of the new financial year there is no better time for business owners to take action.”

Mr Fernely will hold the first training day on Friday April 10 and the second on Thursday April 30.
