Stubborn Fat loss – be true to yourself

Stubborn fat loss – how do you deal with it, do you seek a long term solution? or the quick fix solution?

I saw an advert recently about a fairly new non-surgical fat reduction procedure called “coolsculpting”,  maybe you have heard of it.  The stubborn fat lossconcept of the procedure is simple, basically the procedure freezes your fat cells to death, thereby reducing the local area of fat and promoting stubborn fat loss.

It may work, it may not work and since it’s been FDA approved in America it’s probably safe – right?  The procedure claims to get rid of “stubborn fat”.  Here’s the exact quote from their site:

“It’s called stubborn fat for a reason: not matter how much you eat healthy and exercise, it’s virtually impossible to lose those annoying muffin tops and love handles as you get older.  You’re left with two options: live with them or think surgery.  Neither is cool by us”

To be honest it’s not so much the procedure of promoting stubborn fat loss that bothered me, but rather the message it puts across.

I agree stubborn fat loss is difficult, but the quick fix concept they’re promoting makes eating healthy and exercising seem like a chore or a temporary solution.  Its neither exercising and eating healthy should be maintained for the long term.

Stubborn fat occurs for a reason, as hard as it may be to hear, it can take many years of gradual over eating and under exercising to increase your body fat.  The gain is often so gradual that you don’t notice it until something occurs that makes you notice.  You would probably swear that you’ve been eating the same and doing the same activities, but somehow the weight just piled on.

Yes, it’s true that your metabolism slows down as you age, but it’s not an excuse to blame your weight gain on.  Too many people shift the blame on everything else, but themselves.

I feel that the message of this procedure and many others like it just reinforces that mentality.  A quick fix is all you need to promote stubborn fat loss that probably took years to develop from a poor diet and lack of activity.

The answer to getting rid of fat is and has always been simple, just not fast or easy.

Eating healthy, being active, exercising and getting ample amounts of sleep is truly all you need to get lean healthy, toned and fit.  This doesn’t mean your stubborn fat loss will magically increase, it takes time.  But when you shift your focus away from your body image, to how you feel,  how much stronger you are and how much more energy you have, you’ll enjoy all the long list of benefits and leading a healthy lifestyle won’t be a temporary solution.

The concept of being healthy and fit is really messed up by the media, that everyone has a certain image ingrained in their head of what being healthy and fit should look like and therefore when it comes to stubborn fat loss, most people will opt for the quick fix.

If your perceived self image is what you see on the front of magazines you need to change.  Not having a six pack or not wearing a size 8 or not having 20 inch biceps or having a little cellulite is (all) fine.  Many of the men on the front of fitness magazines are using laboratory made supplements to look the way they do.  And the ladies on the cover of every glossy magazines are either heavily air brushed (especially if it’s a celebrity) or they’re very young.  Don’t believe the hype.

What’s your definition of being healthy and fit?  That’s all that matters, be true to yourself.
