Do weight loss pills, potions and powders work?

You may well lose some weight but at what cost to your health?

Many people use them for a quick fix and find that they are on a spiral of using them, not using them because they have lost weight and then gained it all back and more.

They are not a natural food, are highly processed and should be treated as such. There is no substitute for what nature provides for us and no research shows you will lose more weight by using them.

For most people, unless you alter your diet and get daily exercise, no pill, potion or powder is going to have a big impact. I don’t know how you eliminate exercise from the equation. Extensive research is very strong that exercise is crucial to not only losing weight and preserving muscle mass, but keeping the weight off.

What people want is to lose weight and maintain or increase lean tissue mass.. There is no researched evidence that any one supplement does this. And some have side effects ranging from the unpleasant, such as bloating and gas, to very serious issues such as strokes and heart problems.

Many of these can be bought from someone who is not qualified to offer safe advice for the individuals needs. Always get advice from a qualified professional.

Using these products does not increase your knowledge of what is long term healthy nutrition, knowledge is key. Many people I know and have had the pleasure of working with have had their lives ruined by powders and pills. They have gained more weight, have had digestion problems and depression as a consequence.

Our bodies need real natural foods eliminate processed foods. Research increasingly shows that non-processed high-fiber foods are harder to digest and have a greater “thermic effect” – they increase your metabolism.
